For Russians the word "Yarmarka" means not only an open air market place where merchants came to sell their goods and peasants from near-by villages to buy. It was also a place where people had great fun, took part in folk plays, watched amusing buffoons, listened to chastooshka full of mirth and danced together. Yarmarka was a real holiday! That name "YARMARKA" has been chosen for group by its first participants and managers. February 1988 became a month when the group was officially established. Since 1989 the ensemble has taken an active part in various festivals and contests in the Perm area and abroad. In 2000 "Yarmarka" has taken status of municipal ensemble of folk music and dance. The group has been successfully performed at the Good Will Games in Seattle, the USA (1990), Festival in France (1991), Festivals in USA (1992), Greece (1991), Germany (1993), guest performances in Luxemburg and Germany (1994), Great Tour in France (1994 - 1996), the Charity project for Perm Children' Cancer Hospital in Indiana, the USA (1997), Concert Tour in France, 15 cities such as Vitel, Metz, Kann, Nizza etc.(1998), International Festival in island Taiwan (1999), International Festival in Belgium, Holland and Germany (2000), six month tour in Taiwan, Christmas performances in Germany (2001) and France - Euro Disney, Paris and Truant (2004), International Music Festival in Germany (2002, 2006), in Great Britain (2002, 2004,2006) and Switzerland (2004), concert tour in France (2005), International festivals in Germany (2006) and France (2006) In the repertoire of the ensemble there are its own versions of Russian folk songs including folklore of Perm area and other regions of Russia, musical and choreographic compositions, orchestra plays as well as other songs and dances. Specific arrangements for choral songs and orchestra plays, humor and artistic nature - this is what makes a hospitable atmosphere at Yarmarka's shows. Full size of the group "Yarmarka" - 35 members. It consists of orchestra of folk instruments (2 bayans, balalaika, domra, bass-balalaika, flute, zhaleika and percussion) - 8 members, ballet group - 10 members (5 pairs), vocal group - 14 members and administration. But we can work using different staff it may be 18 members, 25 members or more. All years of existence art director of municipal ensemble of folk music and dance "Yarmarka" is Viktor Kouzminov.
